The Honest Resume Check
New to Canada and stuck in a service job you have outgrown? Your resume might be the reason.
A free, honest check of your resume, from someone who spent twelve years on the hotel and restaurant floor — read the way a Canadian hiring manager actually reads it. Paste it below. No account. No cost.
Open your resume, select everything, copy it, and paste it here. Formatting will look messy in the box — that is fine.
A job title is enough — for example, “hotel front desk supervisor” or “restaurant manager”.
I do not keep your resume. It is checked and then discarded — nothing is stored on my side. The check is run by Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, under its own privacy policy — the honest details are below the tool.
Reading it the way a Canadian employer would…
This usually takes ten to twenty seconds.

The full report
The full report goes through all nine checks — the personal details that do not belong on a Canadian resume, what the sorting software sees, your summary, your bullet points, and more.

The full report — all nine checks
What this is, and what it is not
This will not promise you a job. No honest person can. What it can do is help your resume tell the truth about you, clearly, in a form this country’s employers and their software can actually read.
If you would rather have templates to work from, I have put together a set built for the Canadian market — the same checklist this tool uses. See the template pack.
And if you would like me to rewrite it with you, I take a small number of resumes each week and do it by hand. About the rewrite.
I am one person with a day job, so anything I do by hand takes a few days, not a few minutes. That is the honest trade for care.
Something went wrong on my side
The check could not run just now. Your resume was not stored anywhere. Please try again in a minute.
Who is behind this
Tom Pham
Toronto
I moved to Canada when I was fifteen. I failed the IELTS three times. For a long time I sent out resumes and heard nothing back, and I did not understand why.
The truth was simple, and no one had told me: the resume I was proud of was built for a different country. It had things on it that do not belong on a Canadian resume, and it was missing the things that do. Software was reading it before a person ever did, and the software could not make sense of it.
I spent twelve years working my way up on hotel and restaurant floors in Toronto, and along the way friends started asking me to look at their resumes. A few of them wrote back later to say they had found the job they were hoping for. That is the whole reason this tool exists.
I am not a recruiter. I am not a career coach. I am someone who had to learn the Canadian resume the slow, painful way, and who has written three books along the way — the newest, Write the Book Instead, is out now on Amazon. This tool is me helping you skip most of the pain.
How it works
- You paste your resume in the box above and, if you like, tell it the job you are aiming for.
- In ten to twenty seconds you get an honest read: what a Canadian employer sees first, what the sorting software might be throwing out, the personal details that do not belong here, and the three things to fix first.
- That first read is free and requires nothing. If you want the full nine-point report, you leave your email and it opens on the page. I will also send you an occasional honest note about work and building a life on the side. You can leave the list any time, with one click.
What happens to your resume
I do not keep it. Here is exactly what happens.
- Your resume is not stored. It is checked in memory and discarded. It is never written to a database, a file, or a log on my side.
- The check is run by Claude, an AI made by Anthropic. Under Anthropic’s policy, what you paste is not used to train their AI. It is processed under their privacy policy, the same way any serious tool that uses AI works.
- Your email is collected only if you ask for the full report, and it is used for that report and my occasional notes. No pre-ticked boxes. One-click unsubscribe.
- Nothing here asks for your address, your documents, or your money. A first name and a pasted resume is all the tool ever sees, and you can leave your phone number and street address out of the paste entirely — the check works fine without them.
What this is, and what it is not
This will not promise you a job. No honest person can.
It will not tell you to lie, to stuff your resume with tricks, or to sound like someone you are not.
What it will do is help your resume tell the truth about you, clearly, in a form this country’s employers and their software can actually read. That is the part most newcomers get wrong, through no fault of their own. It is the part I can help with.
